Lost in the Crowd.
Dance because no one is watching.
Ok, picture this. It's Friday night, and you're scrolling through your phone looking at the countless jokes, memes and bad takes on the internet. Nothing new, just the same old things that have been circling through your time. Until you land on a short promo video. Looks like someone's hosting an event, probably just another night in the club or something. You keep watching and start feeling the vibes from this thing and suddenly realize this is a boiler room event.
Now, you've never been because you never saw yourself going to one and you don't know anyone who is into it. Ok, maybe one or two people that you know but you ain't that close to them. The dude from the promo video is making it sound really good, like "damn, you promoting this thing heavy, aren't you?"
You keep watching and become more interested. Where exactly is this thing going to happen? The address pops up in bright bold letters. Wait a minute, you know where this is. It's in your city. The date springs in right after. It's tonight! In the spur of the moment, you cancel any plans you had tonight and start looking for a fit to wear to this thing.
The night dawns and luckily, it only takes about 20 minutes to get to the party. There's a lineup outside when you pull up but you soon realize it's just people huddling outside to smoke. One of them turns out to be the girl selling the tickets. She notices you approaching and somehow knows you're here for the vibes. She gestures to you. "Pay what you can, man. If you don't got anything, it's all good, just walk in." The twenty in your hand was already out when she said that and it would be too weird not to give it to her. She grabs a paper wristband out of her pocket and hands it to you. "Enjoy," was the last thing you heard from her.
You step inside the building and start walking up the steps, glaring at the vintage photos framed on the wall. You feel the club's heartbeat thumping through the walls just as you get to the top of the staircase. As you turn into the venue, you're blasted with an array of lights. Drinks are flowing from the bar and small pockets of friends are scattered around the dance floor, grooving to the rhythm of deep lofi house music. Miraculously, no one has spilled their drink. Immediately you go to the bar to order your favorite cocktail.
The bartender hands you your drink and the moment you turn around to face the room again, the sea of people instinctively part, revealing the perfect spot for you at the center of the room. The shades come on and it doesn't take long for the cocktail to work its magic. Now, like the ice cubes in your cup, you're floating. Alone but not isolated, you move with so much freedom that it scares you a little but you don't care; you don't care who's watching.
"This is how it should be," you say to yourself. For the rest of the night, your only thought is this: Keep dancing because no one is watching.
