Go Get Lost
Smell the roses, kiss the sun, and rest on park benches and grass as the gust of spring comforts you. By now, most of the trees and flower beds in your neighborhood have blossomed but there still may be a few out there waiting eagerly for their moment.
The sense of adventure will only intensify for you from now on. Every park, trail, and highway will transform into one big playground with endless routes for exploration. It'll feel like you're a kid again, eyes wide with curiosity and bright like a smile.
Your neighborhood will feel bigger as your senses tune in to the details you've never noticed before; like how the tulips hanging from Mrs. Marino's porch are arranged to look like the Italian flag. This whole time, you thought it was a real flag, didn't you? Or how about the precision in Mr. Carter's hedges? The edges look like they can cut you. It's no wonder why he gives the perfect shape-ups at his barbershop. Everything will look a little more saturated when the sun shines and you'll think about how admirable it is to see everyone's personality on full display in their yard.
The block after yours won't be any different. Sure, you may not know who lives there but there is something about the way they cut their grass that says enough. And no, this isn't judgment you're casting upon them; just an observation.
For good reasons, the park will transform into your second home. There might not be much to do but there's always a lot to take in; the dogs racing around, tasting freedom; the elderly couple holding hands while reminiscing on the bench. They've probably been married for about 30-plus years. What about the kids endlessly teasing each other until one of them calls a truce? Only for the promise to break shortly after as they have at it again. The names of your closest friends will start to pop up when you look at them.
You won't even recognize a particular part of your neighborhood because you've wondered so far. You'll start to question whether on not you've lived in your neighborhood or just taken up residency because how could you have missed this? You'll realize you have no interest in going home, and much like the kids at the park, you find yourself saying 'C'mon, just five more minutes!'. The feeling will be bliss, so much so that you hop back on your bike, nearly punting your chains loose in excitement, as you find the next hidden gem.
It's not so hidden though, is it?
When the sound of your bicycle spokes spinning mirrors the rolling of vintage film, you'll find yourself sitting back, head relaxed as you view your surroundings to be the greatest cinematic masterpiece you've ever watched. Life and art will intertwine, and you'll be living the dream you'll never want to wake up from. To think, all of this is only a footstep away from your house. That first step through those fiberglass doors was all it took. Time will become irrelevant and before you know it, you won't know how you ended up at the pond.
No? Not seeing it? Well, go get lost.
